Dr. Paul Schafer

Paul Schafer grew up in the east bay. He was graduated from the College of Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a letter in crew and served on the Engineering Joint Council. After working as an electrical engineer and project leader for Hewlett-Packard, he was accepted to U.C. San Francisco Dental School. There he was honored to receive the Chancellor Fleming Award, a Certificate of Commendation from the dean, and twice served as president of his class. He also received achievement awards from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the Academy of Operative Dentistry. After graduation in 1994, Dr. Schafer taught dental students as a part-time member of the faculty for over 18 years. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Schafer offers a unique set of training and skills. He is one of only two dentists in Marin County to have earned a Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires over 1,100 hours of training. He is one of about a dozen surgeons and general dentists in Marin to have earned a Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Six years ago he became just the third dentist in Marin able to place crowns and bonded white fillings using a surgical operating microscope. He is the only dentist in Marin to have been awarded a Fellowship from the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry. He served for 18 years as a faculty member at the UC San Francisco Dental School teaching the latest techniques including CAMBRA.

As a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Dr. Schafer has been trained in placing dental implants using computer guided surgery for exact placement for the best prognosis and longevity, then restoring them to proper form and function for lasting beauty.

What are you proud of in your practice?

Children are delightful, and we get them off to a great start with innovative preventive techniques their parents can implement so they grow up without any cavities. For those with a history of good dental care, we can help them restore and maintain their healthy smiles for a lifetime. For adults with a history of fillings, gum disease, or discomfort, we can treat their problems with compassion, and have a 20 year record of success using encouragement and state of the art equipment and techniques.
