Dr. Ikemiya was born and raised in the Central San Joaquin Valley. He grew up in Reedley, and did his undergraduate work at Fresno State. He continued his education at Northwestern University where he graduated from Dental School in 1990. Upon graduation, he joined his father in general practice back in his home town, where he had been in practice for over 15 years. Fulfilling a lifetime dream of living on the beautiful central coast, he recently joined the Monterey Peninsula Dental Group in April of 2006. Dr. Ikemiya has had extensive postgraduate training. He takes great pride in his affiliation with the internationally recognized L.D. Pankey Institute. After completing the seven levels of the Pankey continuum, he was honored by being asked to serve on the Board of Directors of the Institute. Other notable continuing education experiences include training at the Dawson Center of Advanced Dental Education, and the Northern California Institute of Aesthetic Dentistry. He has also taken courses to appropriately diagnose and treat patients who suffer from sleep apnea. Professional growth is important to Dr. Ikemiya, and he participates in two advanced study groups to facilitate his learning. He is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Equilibration Society, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Monterey Bay Dental Society. Dr. Ikemiya's passion for dentistry is balanced by spending time with his wife Sonia and daughter Shannon. They enjoy taking in the beauty of the Monterey Peninsula together, particularly at Carmel Beach, Garland Park, and Point Lobos State Park. The Ikemiya's look forward to raising their family in Carmel, and anticipate becoming active members of the Peninsula community.
