About
Dr. Chih-Ping Chen was born in a small but beautiful island, Taiwan. He graduated from the National Defense Medical Center (NDMC), Taipei, with the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1986. Because of his excellent academic achievements, Dr. Chen was awarded the Silver Study Medal from the Ministry of National Defense (MND) and appointed to remain in service for his Alma Mater NDMC after graduation. He served and had been trained as Resident, Chief Resident and Attending Staff at Department of Dentistry, Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH). With outstanding performances in teaching, research and clinical services, Dr. Chen was awarded a government scholarship for advanced study in USA from 1994 to 1998 to follow Dr. Herbert Schilder, the Endodontic Master to learn the famous three-dimensional warmed GuttaPercha vertical compaction technique. He focused on familiarizing with the Schilderian principles of cleaning and shaping the root canal system and the diagnostic knowledge of endodontic diseases. Dr. Chen received his Certificate in Endodontics (CAGS, 1996) and the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc, 1998) in Dentistry from Henry Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University. He won the First-place graduate student award on the research presentation at American Association of Endodontists meeting in 1998. When he returned to continue his services at NDMC and TSGH, Dr. Chen was awarded the Gold Study Medal from the MND and promoted as Assistant Professor in 1999, Chief of Division of Oral Diagnosis in 2000, Chairman of Department of Endodontics in 2002. To improve the successful rate in root canal treatments and to prolong the functions of the damaged teeth for patients, Dr. Chen instructed local dentists through lectures and hands-on courses on the Schilderian and MicroEndodontic Techniques across Taiwan. On June, 2007, Dr. Chen retired from the military and landed in Toronto along with his family. He successfully passed the National Dental Specialty Examination in Endodontics on July, 2011 and became a Fellow of Royal College of Dentists of Canada [FRCD(C)] on September, 2011.
