Concerns of Holistic Dentists: Holistic dentists are especially conscious of the overall health effects of the substances that they introduce into your body. For example, many dentists still prefer placing what they call silver fillings. However, these fillings are less than 50% silver, and actually have more mercury in them. Dr. Lopez, as a holistic dentist, has a mercury free practice- she does however remove mercury fillings using safety protocals to ensure patient health always. Although there are providers that are mercury-free dentists- most patients are unaware that they will place composite fillings that have bisphenol A (BPA). The National Toxicology Program at the Department of Health and Human Services has raised concerns about BPA, saying that it may have adverse effects on some human tissues. It mimics estrogen and interferes with the proper function of this hormone. The FDA is trying to reduce human exposure to BPA. Dr. Lopez makes sure that none of the filling materials she uses on patients contain BPA. A number of studies have shown that dental operating water that circulates through dental equipment and gets sprayed into the mouth has particularly high levels of bacteria. Here is a partial list of what Dr. Lopez does to help insure your safety and whole body health in her office: She is a mercury-free dentist. She only places BPA-free fillings. The walls in the office are painted with VOC-free paint. VOC or "volatile organic compounds" evaporate into the atmosphere, contributing to the ozone problem. Her water is triple filtered. The flooring in the office is made of special non-toxic materials.
